‘Gaffer’: William Hill and Sky Media explore turbulent life of football managers in new doc


WIlliam Hill has entered into a new partnership with Sky Media which will see it  launch a documentary which highlights the dramatic highs and lows of being a football manager just as the season begins.

Created in collaboration with production company Dead Films and media agency Wavemaker, the series will launch today (16 August) on Sky Sports, featuring first-hand accounts from renowned figures such as Brendan Rodgers, Fabrizio Romano, Roberto Mancini, Rob Edwards, former Crystal Palace owner Simon Jordan and Manchester United legend Patrice Eva.

The series, which will be promoted via social media cutdowns on Sky Sports’ Instagram and Facebook as well as a 30-second TV commercial, will provide fans with an in-depth exploration of the challenges and opportunities that come with evolving management styles.

Sky Media client and marketing director said: “We’re thrilled to have collaborated with William Hill and Wavemaker UK to create this unique perspective on football.

“Everyone’s an armchair manager thinking they can do a better job, but this in-house produced series offers an intimate and compelling look at the world of football management.”

Sky Advance technology, which taps into TV and ad viewing data, will target football fans online offering a clickable version of the spot along with a short-form video on demand (SFVOD) and digital inventory.

“Football managers operate in an incredibly high-stakes environment. Through ‘Gaffer,’ we aim to give viewers a deeper understanding of the complexities and pressures that these leaders face every day,” said William Hill UK marketing director Michael Sheehan.
