CG-animated Walrus commandeers speedboat in latest Virgin Media ad

Virgin Media has released the latest iteration of its long-running ‘To Better and Beyond’ campaign, this time featuring a star turn from a speedboat-stealing Walrus.

Looking to build on the success of 2023’s ‘Goat Glider’ and 2022’s ‘Highland Rider’, ‘Walrus Whizzer’ marks the third instalment instalment in the telecom firm’s popular animal-themed series.

Developed by creative agency VCCP, the 60-second spot sees an intricately CG-animated walrus commandeer a rather confused-looking gentleman’s speedboat before sailing off into the distance to the mellow sounds of Billy Ocean’s ‘Suddenly’.

Directed by Sweden’s Andreas Nilsson and produced by Biscuit Filmworks, the film was shot in Nilsson’s homeland using enhanced effects from the BAFTA award-winning Untold Studios.

“This latest campaign celebrates the feeling Virgin Media broadband delivers to our customers every day. Smooth, fast and reliable,” Virgin Media O2 marketing director, Simon Valcarcel said.

“Being recognised by GWS as providing the ‘Best Broadband Experience’ only confirms what our customers already know – they are truly unstoppable with us.”

Running through to 27 October, the work will appear across cinema, TV, video-on-demand, online, out-of-home, social media and radio. Media planning and buying was handled by MG OMD.

VCCP deputy ECD, David Mastermand added: “With our Highland Cow and our Goat we brought to life just how unstoppable Virgin Media is. We’ve been on land and in the air. It was time to take to the high seas. And, let’s face it, Walruses have a lot of personality.”
